Three-goal second sends Canucks past Montreal, 5-2 Canucks bounce back after loss to Maple Leafs - Update to follow

In Montreal, the visiting Vancouver Canucks bounced back from a dismal loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday with a 5-2 win over the Canadiens.

After a scoreless first period, the Canucks struck three times in the middle frame to take a 3-0 lead into the third.

Connor Garland got the second period outburst going at 6:15  for a 1-0 lead to the Canucks.

Ilya Mikheyev pushed the advantage to 2-0 midway through the frame.

Dakota Joshua then ballooned the lead to 3-0 with 2:03 left in the second.

Montreal broke through in the third when Mike Mathesoncut the deficit to 3-1 at 6:46 off the power play.

Montreal dropped to 8-5-2.

Brock Boeser potted an empty-net goal at 18:30 of the third for a 4-1 advantage for the Canucks, before Arber Xhekaj scored for Montreal  to make it 4-2 at 19:11.

Brock Boeser scored a second empty=net goal for the 5-2 final with 18 left on the game clock.

Jake Allen made 30 saves and had an assist.
