In Ottawa, a three-goal second period by the Buffalo Sabres helped propel them a 6-4 win over the Senators on Tuesday night.
Tage Thompson and Jeff Skinner each hit for a pair of goals in the Sabres win.
Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 34 saves in the Buffalo win.
Skinner and Zemgus Girgensons scored in the first period to give the Sabres a 2-0 lead.
Skinner’s double came in the middle frame to extend the advantage to 3-0.
The Senators got on the board at 13:14 of the second on a marker from Jakob Chychrunfor a 3-1 score.
Alex Tuch scored four minutes later off the power play, to restore the three-goal lead at 4-1.
Thompson then hit for the first of his double at 18:48 to give the Sabres a 5-1 advantage.
It stayed that way until 15:35 of the third when Vladimir Tarasenko scored to get the Senators back to within three at 5-2.
Josh Norris then collected a power play goal at at 18:38to get the Sens within 5-3.
Ottawa continued the rally with a strike by Mathieu Joseph at 18:58 for a 5-4 score.
Thompson his double at 19:37 into an empty net for the 6-4 final.
Anton Forsberg got the start for the Senators, and made 13 saves, yielding five goals. He was given the hook in the second intermission.
Joonas Korpisalo made five saves in a mop up role.
