TOLEDO, OH – The Toledo Walleye fell to the Fort Wayne Komets 5-2 on Wednesday morning in front of a sold out crowd. Machovsky stopped 23 of 27 shots to is now 2-3-0-1 on the season. Toledo is 14-5-2-1 on the season and 7-1-0 at home.
Mike Borkowski opened the scoring with a power play goal at 15:55 of the first period to give the Walleye a 1-0 lead.
Fort Wayne tied the game 1-1 on a goal by Garrett Thompson at 13:20 of the second period.
Borkowski scored his second of the game and ninth of the season on the power play to make it a 2-1 Walleye lead at 9:13 of the third period. Fort Wayne tied the game 2-2 when Louick Marcotte scored at 12:39 of the third. The Komets took a 3-2 lead at 13:39 of the third when Thompson scored his second of the game and tenth of the season. Fort Wayne extended their lead 4-2 at 15:56 of the third period on Curtis Leonard’s first of the year. Fort Wayne took a 5-2 lead on an empty net goal by Thompson to secure his hat trick at 19:13 of the third.
Fish Tales: The Walleye are home Friday night for a 7:15 p.m. puck drop against Tulsa and Saturday night for a 7:15 p.m. puck drop against Wheeling… Machovsky stopped 23 of 27 shots and is now 2-3-0-1 on the season… Tyler Barnes leads Toledo with seven points in five games against Fort Wayne this season… Wednesday’s crowd of 7,542 was good for the Walleye’s eighth sell out of the season in eight home games.
