GREENVILLE, SC – The Greenville Swamp Rabbits (28-18-4-1), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, came from back from a 4-2 deficit Saturday night to take down the Eastern Conference leading Florida Everblades (33-10-2-3) 5-4. The Swamp Rabbits netted three straight third period goals to earn the
victory as Justin DaSilva fired the game-winning goal with one minute left to play. Greenville has won five straight games and are undefeated at home during the last seven contests at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena.
A power play tally from Bretton Cameron kicked off the third period rally. The veteran netted his team leading 17th goal of the season, deflecting the shot in front of the net. Joe Houk’s shot from the blue line found the body of the captain and tipped into the net to cut the lead to 4-3. The goal set Cameron’s best single season goal total in his career. Greenville finished the game 2-for-3 on the power play.
Angelo Miceli netted the game-tying goal for the second straight game with his 13th tally of the year. The Swamp Rabbits leading point-getter walked to the right circle before firing a shot inside the post at 10:43.
With the game tied, Greenville would go on the penalty kill a few minutes later. Following another successful kill, Cameron would come close to scoring the go-ahead tally as a rebound shot hit the post.
DaSilva gave Greenville their first lead with one-minute left in the game. The loose puck came to the top of the circles for the blue liner to unload a huge slap shot into the net. The game-winning goal would hold up despite the Everblades last-ditch effort of pulling the goaltender.
Florida jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first before the Swamp Rabbits got on the board. Troy Donnay netted his first goal of the season on a big rebound to the high slot. Tristan King’s initial shot was saved by Anthony Peters and kicked right to the defenseman in the slot. On his birthday, the second-year defenseman would skate away as the number two star with a goal and assist.
The teams traded goals in the second period as Mike Ferrantino netted his 10th of the year to start the frame. Over 10 minutes later, Spiro Goulakos cashed in on a power play chance. The defenseman fired his 12th goal of the season and sixth power play tally to help Greenville to a 3-2 deficit at the end of the second period.
The Swamp Rabbits skated to the win with 37 shots on net. Greenville is 14-1-1-0 in games when outshooting their opponent. Mackenzie Skapski earns his fifth straight win in net, making 26 saves in his seventh straight start. Peters fell to Greenville after making 32 saves.
Greenville and Florida will face off again Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. Through seven meetings this season, the Swamp Rabbits are 2-3-2-0 against Florida.
