The Cleveland Monsters beat the Toronto Marlies (24-18-4-3) 4-2 on Friday night at Rocket Arena. With the win, the Monsters are now 26-16-6-1 and are currently in third place in the AHL’s North Division standings.
Toronto’s Ryan Tverberg scored the only goal of the opening frame at 5:03 to give the Marlies a 1-0 lead.
Cleveland’s Luca Del Bel Belluz cracked open the second period with a goal at 0:17 with helpers from Dysin Mayo and Mikael Pyyhtiä but Toronto’s Benoit-Olivier Groulx responded with a goal at 17:30 making it 2-1 to end the frame.
The Monsters added a tally at 8:19 of the third from Jack Williams assisted by Hudson Fasching to bring the score to an even 2-2. Owen Sillinger scored the go ahead goal at 11:35 with helpers from Luca Pinelli and Roman Ahcan and Zach Aston-Reese tacked on another at 17:48 assisted by Brendan Gaunce and Ahcan to make the final score 4-2 Monsters.
Cleveland’s Zach Sawchenko stopped 18 shots for the win while Toronto’s Artur Akhtyamov made 23 saves in defeat.
