Third period explosion carries Mavericks to win

WICHITA, KS — The Missouri Mavericks scored three third period goals to propel them to a 4-2 victory in Wichita on Friday night. The Mavericks power play cashed in for two goals and Josh Robinson shut the door to carry the Mavericks to the win over the Thunder.

The Thunder struck first as Maxime St-Cyr put home a loose puck in front of the Mavericks goaltender, Josh Robinson, at 16:47 of the opening frame. Mavericks captain, Andrew Courtney, answered just three minutes later as he redirected a shot from Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel to make the game 1-1.

The Mavericks took charge of the game in the third period as Conner Bleackley made it 2-1 at 7:01. Rocco Carzo put the Mavericks up 3-1 just over two minutes later with a power play goal at 9:27. Wichita cut the lead in half as Jamie Doornbosch put one past Josh Robinson at the 10:48 mark. A nifty solo effort by Matt Finn added insurance for the Mavericks at 14:31. Finn picked up the puck behind his own net and went through the Wichita defenders, pulled the puck between his legs and fooled Drew Owsley with the Mavericks second power play goal of the game.

Josh Robinson picked up the win as he stood tall in net, making 41 saves in the victory. Wichita travels to Missouri tomorrow for a rematch at 7:05 p.m..
