DUNDAS—Dundas Real McCoys regardless of the outcome of last Friday’s Allan Cup Hockey game. It was a nothing game for both sides because their playoff positions had already been determined.
Happy to be back in the friendly home confines of the JL Grightmire Arena, three of the McCoys finished in the top six in Allan Cup scoring by season’s end.
Brad Bonello was their top gun in the league with 19 goals and 13 assists for 32 points in 13 games. Teammate Phil Brewer finished in a tie for fourth in scoring with 10 goals and 18 assists for 28 points in 19 regular season games. Mackenzie Wood wound up in a tie for sixth with 13 goals and 26 points in 18 games.
Dundas defenceman Al Rourke digs for the puck in the skates of goalkeeper Mike Mole, while Brantford’s Jordan Owens tried a new dance-step in last Friday’s Allan Cup Hockey match. Brantford won 8-5 in the JL Grightmire Arena.
“We’re really excited to get the playoffs under way. Brantford is loaded with talent and we’ll need a full effort, with all hands on deck, to compete with them. It will be a great series. Our players are hoping this series gets us ready for the Allan Cup Tournament,” said Dundas President and General Manager Don Robertson.
“Friday’s game (8-5 loss to Brantford) really meant nothing to either team, so the intensity for this series should go up a few notches on Friday night.”
Last Friday, Jarrett Konkle paced the Brantford attack with two goals. Cam Fergus, Chris Lawrence, Jordan Owens, and Nathan Pageau added a goal and an assist each, while Sean Blanchard and Justin Dacosta completed the scoring with a goal each. Rob Hisey and Scott Hotham assisted on two goals each.
League-scoring leader Brad Bonello scored twice and set up a third goal for Dundas. Chase Trull scored twice for them with Mark Bennett adding a single goal.
