The Manchester Monarchs fall to the Reading Royals

The Manchester Monarchs traveled to pennsilvenia to take on the Reading Royals. Doug Carr started in net for the Monarchs opposed by Martin Ouellette of the Reading Royals. The game started out with both teams looking for the early edge in the game, they traded rushes back and forth early.

The Royals got on the board first with a goal from Scot Tanski assisted by Brandon Alderson and Derik Johnson. It only took the Monarchs three minutes to tie the game, the goal came from Robbie Donahue. The goal was assisted by Austin Block and Gasper Kopitar.

The Monarchs continued to chip away at the Royals defense, but Ouellette was strong in net. A Mike Pereira tripping penalty put the Monarchs on the power play. Maxim Kitsyn scored for the Monarchs to take the lead, Derrick Arnold and Yann Sauve got the assists.

The Royals continued to push back, but Carr was solid in net for the Monarchs turning away the Royals chances. Robbie Donahue took a highsticking penalty to put the Monarchs down a man. Like the Monarchs the Roayls capitalized on their chance, The goal came from Mike Pereira.

Yannick Tifu and Justin Crandall got the assists on the play, this sent both teams into a tie. 35 seconds later the Monarchs took the lead again on a goal from Derrick Arnold assisted by Joey Diamond. The back and forth first period ended with the Monarchs leading 3-2 and the shots 16 to 8 Royals.

The Monarchs picked it up in the second period looking to add to their land and push away from the Royals. They traded rushed throughout the second period, but neither team could solve the opposing goalie. The Monarchs held much of the zone time through the middle part of the second period and continued to attack Ouellette.

Unfortunately he was solid in net for the Royals and the continued to battle to gain a step on the other team. Josh Brown took a double minor roughing penalty that put the Monarchs on back on the kill. The Roayls scored on the power play again this time from Kevin Young, assisted by Jesper Pettersson and Cam Reid.

The second period ended with the score tied 3-3 and the shots 29 to 18 in favor of the Royals. The Monarchs came back for the third looking to pull away and take the lead again. Unfortunately the Royals scored only 49 seconds in, the goal was scored by Pereira assisted by Todd Perry and Martin Ouellette.

Maxim Kitsyn scored his second of the game just under the five minute mark of the third, assisted by Joey Diamond. The goal brought the two back to even and the Monarchs a chances again to take the lead. The continued to press, but Ouellette wasn’t budging in net.

To make matter worse the Royals defense was able to keep the Monarchs to outside shots and not many rebounds. Yannick Tifu added a goal later assisted by Robbie Czarnik and Justin Carnadall. The Monarchs pulled Carr in an attempt to tie the game and force overtime.

But the Royals added an empty net goal from Justin Crandall assisted by Pereira and Pettersson. The game ended with the Monarchs losing to Roayls 6-4 with the final shots 36 to 34 in favor of the Royals. Third star Maxim Kitsyn, he had two goals in the game for Monarchs.

Second star Scott Tanski, he started the games scoring by getting the games first goal. First star Mike Pereira, he had two goals and an assist in the Royals victory over the Monarchs. The Monarchs will face the Emira Jackals on Saturday night at the Verizon Wireless Center for pink the rink night.
