The Ice Wolves Den Ice Wolves' Co-Captain Cal Butler in the #PHNSpotlight

ALBUQUERQUE – Welcome to the latest edition of the Ice Wolves Den. This week we feature NA3HL Ice Wolves Co-Captain Cal Butler.

Cal returned for his second season and was named Co-Captain along with Jake Wenner, while last weekend

the team raised their Fraser Cup Wild Card banner. Cal says it’s special but they’re motivated, “It means a lot because it shows the guys really look up to me and Wenner. We really appreciate it and we’re glad they have people to look up to and help the team because we had rookies coming in. We talk a lot, Coach talks to us and we help him get the guys together outside of the rink.”  Cal continued, “We’re hoping to get a third banner that’s a lot nicer and bigger. Going to the tournament was the most fun we had all season. It was a grind to get there, but now we want it all.”

Being from Phoenix Cal has loved his time in Albuquerque and having a great host family and an amazing fan base has made it even better, “It’s great, it’s kind of like Arizona and a lot like being home. My billet house feels like home. Their kids always want to hang out and play and I love it. When I get home it makes me not want to hide out in my room. They’re so much fun, we get to play knee hockey and soccer together. It’s absolutely awesome. Cal said, “It gets so loud here, these fans really get pumped especially when we score, it’s so nice. Seeing the local guys on the team now shows they’re really growing the game here. It’s so awesome because they all knew each other from youth hockey.”
Both teams are home this weekend. The NAHL Ice Wolves kick off the weekend Friday and Saturday against the Odessa Jackalopes and it’s Veterans Appreciation, they will be wearing special jerseys raising money for the Veterans Integration Center.
The NA3HL Ice Wolves will then host the Lone Star Brahmas Sunday at 4pm and Monday at 11am for their always popular School Day Matinee. Sunday they will be hosting a toy drive for Toys For Tots. Bring a toy and receive a 2 for 1 skate pass.
