ALBUQUERQUE – Welcome to the latest edition of the Ice Wolves Den. This week we feature new Assistant Coach Chris Garrity.
Coach Garrity comes to New Mexico after playing Division II Hockey at Trine University, where he would also serve as Head Coach after his playing career was over.
Ice Wolves Head Coach Kyle McKenzie says the team is happy to have him, “We were looking for an Assistant Coach and Chris’s resume was great. We loved his background and knew he was a hard worker. He has a lot of experience, he was coming from Trine and had a pretty good record there. He had some other opportunities but he chose New Mexico and we’re extremely excited about it.”
When a new coach comes into any team, support from the players can be tough, Coach McKenzie says that hasn’t been a problem for Coach Garrity, “The boys love him. It’s a big family, any new player or coach that comes in here always gets accepted into the family. He’s been a great helping hand and he’s been doing anything that I need, you can’t ask for more than that.”
The Ice Wolves return home this weekend to take on the Lone Star Brahmas. Friday is 80s night, there will be an 80s fashion show during the 1st intermission. Saturday night will feature a special pregame ceremony to bid farewell to former Ice Wolves player and current youth hockey Coach Petr Philippov. Coach Petr is set to return home to Russia next week. Saturday’s pregame festivities start at 6:25, with puck drop scheduled for 6:30. Saturday is also Pink Ribbon night, pink ribbons will be handed out to support breast cancer awareness.
The NA3HL Ice Wolves are still on the road as they head to Austin to face the 1st Place Ice Bats. They will finally host their home opener next Wednesday October 29th against the El Paso Rhinos where they will raise their Fraser Cup Wild Card banner.
