Guille grew up in the hockey hotbed of Minnesota and attended Gentry Academy, which has produced multiple current and former Ice Wolves alumni. His role model growing up, was his Dad, “He played hockey growing up and he put me in skates. I grew up watching the game, I watched the Minnesota Wild and fell in love with the game, “Guille said. “I also played football growing up, I like to say I’m a natural born football player. I think that transferred over well onto the ice. I love being physical and hitting guys.”
Head Coach Kyle McKenzie says Guille’s style is just what he’s looking for, “He plays a heavy style and we want to be a physical team. He’s always throwing his body around, he plays heavy in the corners and at the net front, I think the guys feed off that. I’m a little bit old school, I’d like to see a more lunch pail, blue collar attitude and he brings that every night. The guys will follow him, that’s a guy you want in your corner, you’d go into a foxhole with.” McKenzie continued, “Kevin Hartzell found him through Kyle Follmer who used to work here. Jacob and Brock Farmer played for Kyle at Gentry Academy, he was relayed to us and we tendered him.”
Guille says he loves the beauty of Albuquerque and enjoys the unique cuisine, “It’s beautiful here, such a nice place. The weather, the rink is awesome, such an amazing location. Plus the staff here is just amazing and the fan support is unreal. The fans coming out and supporting us, we love it and it encourages us.” Guille continued, “I’m kind of a picky eater, I don’t dig into the red or green Chile too much, but I’ve had some good New Mexican meals and they’re pretty good.”
The NAHL Ice Wolves hosted a special matchup Saturday against Amarillo celebrating the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. Unfortunately they fell 4-1. They have this coming weekend off, before they head to Shreveport.
