ALBUQUERQUE – Hello Ice Wolves fans and welcome to the latest edition of the Ice Wolves Den. This week we feature NAHL Goalie of the Month for February, Jackson Fuller.
Jack has had a stand out season so far, “My job right now has been to do my job. The team in front of me has been phenomenal. If I can just make the saves I’m supposed to we should win games.” Fuller continued, “Growing up I looked up to Marc-Andre Fleury. He always has a lot of fun out there. For myself, when I have fun I seem to play a lot better and lately it’s been pretty fun.”
Fuller wouldn’t be here without his family and coaches. “Growing up my parents were unbelievable. They would take me to the rink, every practice and bought me a ton of gear and I can’t thank them enough. I didn’t start out at goalie. To be honest, I wasn’t that great a player. I got cut from a team at mites and thought I might as well be a goalie. Fuller continued, “Getting the chance to play with two great coaches here, Coach Fox and Coach Hartzell has been unbelievable, I can’t thank them enough and Coach McKenzie knows a lot about the game, he’s a player’s coach. He loves to chirp us and makes it fun.”
Head Coach Kevin Hartzell says Fuller is a leader on and off the ice, he was even named an Alternate Captain. “He’s been the backbone of our team. You can’t do anything without goaltending and he’s been solid. It’s his third year in the league. He couldn’t perform the duties of a Captain. I actually reached out to the league, they said he could wear the letter but couldn’t skate down and talk to the officials. The players look at him as a leader. We’ll go as far as he can take us.”
Recently Fuller broke the record for games played by a goalie and this past weekend he broke the team record for wins. He knows that is a big deal, “It’s unbelievable, only playing one game my rookie year I never thought there would be the opportunity, but I’ve had some great teams in front of me helping me to win games.”
The NAHL Ice Wolves completed another sweep last weekend taking down the Amarillo Wranglers. They hit the road this weekend to take on the Colorado Grit.
That NA3HL Ice Wolves are home this weekend to start their push for the Fraser Cup, taking on the Texas Brahmas in the Best of 3 South Division Semi Finals. Puck drop 6:30 Friday and Saturday, 2pm Sunday if necessary.
