CEDAR PARK, Texas — The only shot Stars’ goaltender Maxime Lagace didn’t see was the one that won the game for the Stockton Heat. Freddie Hamilton fired the game-winning power play goal past the screened Lagace, giving the Heat a hard fought 1-0 win.
Both teams had numerous scoring opportunities, but Lagace and Heat goaltender Jon Gillies stopped 68 shots and the posts stopped at least another half dozen.
“We didn’t get much puck luck,” Stars’ Head Coach Derek Laxdall said. “We hit three posts in the first period. You’re going to have those games sometimes. The effort was there, but we just didn’t get the win tonight.”
Stockton nearly took the lead on a Stars’ power play late in the second period when Derek Grant went in alone on a breakaway chance. Lagace stood tall, stopping the shot. The Stars then went down to the other end of the ice on an odd-man break, but Gillies stopped several attempts.
Travis Morin and Devin Shore both had prime scoring chances during the game, but were thwarted by Gillies.
The loss ended the Texas four-game win streak.
