CEDAR PARK, TEXAS — Travis Morin scored the only goal in the shootout round to lead the Stars to a 3-2 win over the San Jose Barracuda. The Stars had a great opportunity to win the game in the overtime, but Barracuda goaltender Troy Grosenick stoned a Roope Hintz penalty shot.
The teams played a quiet scoreless first period, a welcome respite for the Stars who expended a lot of energy in the previous night’s overtime win.
“It was a hard fought battle tonight, especially after last night with all the energy that was spent in between whistles,” Head Coach Derek Laxdal said. “Give our guys a lot of credit. It was a pretty emotional weekend.”
San Jose took the lead just 15 seconds into the second period on a goal by Filip Sandberg. Texas answered with two goals. Matt Mangene scored with a nifty backhand breakaway score to tie the game. Roope Hintz scored late in the period to give the Stars a 2-1 advantage.
San Jose was one for eight on the power play, but that goal tied the game in the third period. The Stars’ power play weekend woes continued with a zero for six performance.
“We’re working hard on the power play, but just can’t find the back of the net,” Defenseman Matt Mangene said. “It’s not a lack of confidence, just some bad bounces and a few great saves.”
Texas heads to the west coast for four games against Bakersfield, Stockton, San Jose and San Diego, before coming back home on Nov 10 for a pair against Grand Rapids.
