CEDAR PARK, Texas – The Texas Stars were defeated by the Houston Aeros 5-0 in a preseason game on Sunday night at Cedar Park Center. Houston goalie Matt Hackett picked up the win with 21 saves in the shutout. Left wing Robbie Earl led the charge for Houston by setting up three goals. Former Stars center Warren Peters chipped in a goal and assist in the Houston victory. Texas goalie Brent Krahn suffered the loss, stopping 15 of 19 in nearly two periods of play. The Texas Stars begin their second season in the American Hockey League on Sunday, October 10th in San Antonio at 3:00 pm.
Houston claimed the lead with 4:07 left in the first period, as Robbie Earl set up Brandon Buck for the 1-0 lead. Just 19-seconds later, Aeros center Warren Peters notched Houston’s second goal of the night at 16:12, tapping a shot past Stars goalie Brent Krahn. Earl picked up his second assist of the night, setting up the goal from behind the net for the 2-0 Aeros lead.
The Aeros tacked on two more goals in the second period to expand their lead to 4-0. Defenseman Maxim Noreau blasted a slapshot from the point for a power-play goal at 7:02 of the second period for the 3-0 lead. At 9:31, defenseman Jamie Fraser scored off a rebound to make it 4-0 Houston.
Houston tallied its final goal of the evening at 10:16 of the third period. Left wing Jon DiSalvatore scored a power-play goal for the 5-0 final.
The Stars begin their second season in the AHL this coming Sunday at 3:00 pm in San Antonio at the AT&T Center. The game may be heard on ESPN Austin 1530-AM and at the Texas Stars website, www.texasstarshockey.com .
Texas will return home for the first regular season home game on Saturday, October 16th at 7:00 pm against San Antonio. The first 5,000 fans receive a Texas Stars 2010 Western Conference Championship “mini” banner.
