Teravainen’s hat trick in third leads Canes past Dallas, 5-1

In Raleigh Monday night, a tight match between the Carolina Hurricanes and Dallas Stars entered the third period tied, 1-1.

The Canes’ Teuvo Teravainen ended that with a natural hat truck in just over seven minutes.

“There are some nights I can play better, but there are some nights I think I’m doing really good,” Teravainen said. “I just try to get my legs moving. Whenever I’m moving good, I think I’m playing good too.”

Teravainen broke the tie with just under three minutes gone in the final frame.

“He should attack the net more because he has the ability and the skill set to do that,” Carolina head coach Bill Peters said. “He should have a little more of a shooter’s mentality. He is a pass-first guy, a center by trade growing up, but he needs to be a little more selfish going to the net and getting his own shot.”

Jeff Skinner and Sebastian Ahoalso scored for Carolina.

“I’ve got some good linemates who can score,” Staal said. “A (few) assists tonight, a couple greasy ones too. It’s definitely good linemates who are playing well and making it look easy for me.”

Scott Darling made 25 saves to pick up the win as the Canes improved to 7-5-4.

“It’s coming for sure. We’ve tightened up. We like the (roster) changes we’ve made, it just takes time unfortunately. You want instant gratification, but that’s not the way it works. Now everyone is getting comfortable and we’re getting some results,” Peters said of his team after the win.

Alexander Radulov struck for the Stars’ lone goal.

Ben Bishoptook the loss on  saves.

“It’s really disappointing. We had the game right there. We cracked. We were in a great position on the road, exactly where you want to be, and we were the ones who made the mistakes. We got beat off the boards for three of the goals. They outplayed us in the third period. They dialed it up and we did not answer the bell,” Stars head coach Ken Hitchcock said after the Stars collapsed in the third period.
