Telus three stars of the week in QMJHL

QUEBEC CITY, P.Q. —Shawinigan Cataractes goaltender Gabriel Girard, Chicoutimi right winger Guillaume Asselin and Victoriaville defenseman Jeremie Blain earned the distinction of being named the Telus three stars of the week for January 9th to 15th.
 
Ending Thursday night game as the first star of the game in a 4-1 victory against the Saint John Sea Dogs the Shawinigan netminder made 29 saves. On Saturday against the Acadie-Bathurst Titan Girard made 27 saves adding 4 others in shootout earning his 9th consecutive wins.
 
Shawinigan took the overall lead in the standing over the Sea Dogs with 68 points two more than Saint John. As of last Thursday Girard’s goal-against-average was the best in the league at 2.40. For all these great performances during the week the Cataractes goaltender earned the distinction of being named the Telus first star of the week.
 
The second star went to Chicoutimi right winger Guillaume Asselin notably for his 2 goals and his first stars of the game in a 6-0 win against the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles.
 
In a game presented by Sportsnet TV and TVA sports, Asselin earned another first star of a game recording 2 goals adding an assist in a 7-4 victory. The Quebec native ended his week adding 2 assists in a 6-3 loss. Asselin ended his week recording 4 goals, 4assists for 8 points and a plus/minus of + 1.
 
Tellus third star went to Victoriaville Tigres defenseman Jeremie Blain for his performances ending his week with 8 points 3 goals 5 assists and a plus/minus record of +6.
 
The Tigres defenseman began his week scoring 2 goals in a 6-5 Victoriaville win over Quebec last Thursday. Playing against Val-d’Or on Friday Blain recorded 2 assists on Foreurs two power play goals in Victoriaville 6-1 win over Val-d’Or.
 
In Sunday’s game, in an 8-1 win against Baie-Comeau the Tigres defensemam had been names the second stars recording 4 points equaling his personal record of 4 points in same game back on (January 14, 2010) against the Acadie-Bathurst.
 
The Longueuil native ended his week recording 8 points on 3 goals 5 assists and a plus/minus of +6.
