TORONTO – At the Air Canada Centre on Monday, Team Russia’s offense found the back of the net four times in a span of 6:14.
A late effort from Team North America made the game tight but Russia held on for a 4-3 win in Group B.
Vladislav Namestnikov, Nikita Kucherov, Evgeny Kuznetsov, and Vladimir Tarasenko were the goal scorers for Team Russia in the second period outburst.
Sergei Bobrovsky made 43 saves for the win.
Matt Murray got the start for Team North America but was pulled after the second period barrage ended.
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Morgan Rielly and Auston Mathews scored for Team North America.
Next up for Team Russia is Team Finland and both teams need a win.
“We are getting ready for this game. It’s a very important match for us,” said Team Russia head coach Oleg Znarok.
