COVENTRY, UK – Canadian forward Cale Tanaka wants Genting Casino Coventry Blaze to back up their Challenge Cup progress by picking up vital Elite League points this weekend.
Blaze head to Sheffield Steelers tomorrow night on a high after an excellent come-from-behind victory at Braehead Clan on Wednesday which clinched a semi-final place.
They then face Dundee Stars at the Skydome on Sunday night (5.15pm face-off) in another crunch encounter as they continue their bid to make the play-offs.
Tanaka, 28, said: “It was a real character-building game for us. We have been putting in the work, it was a great result and big for the team. “Hopefully it’s a page-turning event and we can keep the momentum going, keep believing in ourselves and keep positive.
“Sheffield are fighting for points for the league championship and we are scrapping for points to make the play-offs so it is going to be a battle.
“We match up pretty well against them but we have not had the better end of it. They are a good side so we will need to bring our ‘A’ game and go to work.
“Dundee is a must-win and two points will move us away from them – we have to win that game. “It is important not to get too high or too low. There is a long way to go but we don’t want to wait until the end of the season to make the play-offs.”
