Tampa throttle New Jersey, 6-3 Hagel, Point hit for doubles in win

In Tampa, Brandon Hagel and Brayden Point hit for doubles for the Lightning on Saturday night in a 6-3 drubbing of the visiting New Jersey Devils. After a scoreless opening stanza, the Lightning took a 2-0 lead in the middle frame.

Nicholas Paul staked the Lightning to a 1-0 lead at 1:09 of the second.

Hagel connected for his first of the night midway through the second for the 2-0 advantage.

Andrei Vasilevskiy made 22 saves in the win.

The Lightning improved to 27-18-5.

New Jersey got their offense going in the third period, it started with Ondrej Palat connecting at 2:49 of the third to trim the deficit to 3-1.

Steven Stamkos replied 60 seconds later with a rebound goal for a 3-1 lead to Tampa.

New Jersey dropped to 24-20-3 off their third loss in four games.

New Jersey cut the deficit to 3-2 on a marker from Jesper Bratt at 7:19.

Point collected his first of the night at 13:52 on a shot from the slot for a 4-2 advantage.

Tyler Toffoli potted a goal fro New Jersey at at 17:22 while they skated with an empty net behind them. The strike cut the Tampa lead to 4-3.

Hagel collected his double at 18:21, and Point picked up his double at 19:06 for the 6-3 final count on the scoreboard.

Both goals were empty-net strikes.

Vitek Vanecek made 36 saves in the loss.
