Tampa hold off Pens after late goal

In Tampa, the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins could not hold a 2-1 lead in the third period as the Lightning posted two unanswered goals in the final frame to grab a 3-2 win Wednesday night.

After Victor Hedman potted the winner with under a minute left in regulation.

“It was obviously a little frustrating being down a goal going into the third,” Hedman said. “We’re a resilient group and we find ways to win. Today, the power play came through.”

Andrei Vasilevskiy made a game-saving stop as time expired to preserve the win.

“There was a big scramble, I just tried to cover the bottom of the net, seal the ice, and he just shot into my glove,” Vasilevskiy said. “Kind of a never-give-up play. It works sometimes … not every time though.”

Vasilevskiy made 37 saves in the win.

Jake Guentzel and Brandon Tanev scored in the second period to erase a 1-0 lead for the Bolts.

“We were right there, back-to-back nights we get a lead,” Sidney Crosby said. “Unfortunately, you’ve got to kill all those penalties.”

Alex Killorn and Cedric Paquette also scored for the Lightning.

“[Paquette] is an extremely important player for us,” Lightning coach Jon Cooper said. “For him to come back the way he did, he just brings an identity to his line.”

Tristan Jarry made 45 saves in the loss

“[Tristan] played really well for us, he made some big saves,” Pens head coach Mike Sullivan said. “I thought we played really hard, you know, against a team that’s a pretty deep team. This is another game that could’ve went either way, it didn’t go our way. That’s two nights in a row now.”
