“It’s obviously a big win for us,” Draisaitl said. “The race is really tight in our conference right now. All the teams up there have the same amount of points, it feels like. Beating a team that we are up against, it’s huge.”

Ryan Kesler and Rickard Rakell  scored for the Ducks.

“I thought we played a good game,” Ryan Getzlaf (two assists) said. “Their power play outplayed our power play tonight. We didn’t get the job done on special teams, and that cost us the game. We had looks. There were a couple of opportunities. I don’t know if we shot the puck the way we wanted to on that. We didn’t execute.”

John Gibson had 27 saves in the losing effort.

The Oilers got regulation goals from Drake Caggiula and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins.

“When you have troubles putting the puck in the net, when you get one, it feels good,” Nugent-Hopkins said. “It was a tight-fought battle all night. They play a tight-checking game, and we did a good job of not giving in to that and giving them too many opportunities. That was a big kill at the end for us. It was a nice way to finish it up.”

The win was a relief for the Oilers who have had issues this last few weeks after a fast start to the season.

“I thought we bent, but didn’t break, which is a sign of maturity for us,” Oilers coach Todd McLellan said. “I’m not happy with the too many men penalty. It was like we were looking for a way to give it to them. But the penalty-killing came through.”
