In Anaheim Wednesday night, the Edmonton Oilers’ Cam Talbot made 26 saves as he posted his fourth shutout of the season in a 4-0 Oilers win over the Ducks.
“My job night in, night out is to make the saves early,” Talbot said. “I think there were a couple early and we got our legs and potted some goals ourselves.”
That job gets easier with offensive support and solid defensive effort.
Leon Draisaitl had two goals in the win.
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Zack Kassian also scored for the Oilers who improved to Edmonton 27-15-8 and now sit one point back of the Ducks for the Pacific Division lead.
“They had a higher rate of completing passes and creating scoring chances than we did,” Ducks coach Randy Carlyle said. “But we didn’t play well with the puck. We haven’t done that in a while. We hit some posts, we had a couple of open nets and the chances we did get after two periods, most of them, we didn’t have much of a net presence. We were one and done.”

John Gibson made 19 saves in loss and Anaheim dropped to 27-15-9.
“It wasn’t like we didn’t have anything going, it was stupid mistakes,” Ducks forward Ryan Kesler said. “We beat ourselves. Obviously we’ve just got to forget about this one and move on.”
