Genting Casino Coventry Blaze can confirm Ashley Tait as captain for the remainder of the 2015/16 Elite League campaign.
Blaze began the season with Tait, Russell Cowley, Jim Jorgensen and Boris Valabik as part of a leadership team.
Tait, 40, will now be the leader of that group having been given the ‘C’, a position he has held for the previous two years at the Skydome.
Tait lifted the play-off trophy last season and also captained Blaze to seven pieces of silverware in a five-year spell between 2002-07, including the Grand Slam in 2004/05.
Coach Chuck Weber said: “I felt with the situation we had with 12 new players coming in I didn’t think it was fair to just name a captain.
“I wanted to see the dynamic of the group and how it came together but you soon realised those four guys were going to be our captains.
“Ash will now be the leader of that group and they are the catalyst to our solution. I know Ash takes pride in the fact it was earned and not just given to him.
“Ash is a fantastic leader, he is always talking to the guys and to the officials on the ice. Adversity reveals a person’s character and he has stayed positive. He has the respect of the team, he got 80 per cent of the votes. It just made sense.”
