Swindon close in on 8th place

SWINDON, UK –

Coach Ryan Aldridge in an interview with local newspaper, the Swindon Advertiser, said he was pleased with the weekend’s performances against the Bees and Jets and believes the playoff can still be made. The weekend’s games figures show that Raimonds Danilics took over from Jan Krajicek as the leading assists scorer, although Jason Cassells still has the best assist scoring average. As far as points and goals go, Aaron Nell leads both in numbers and averages. Jozef Kohut, though, matches Nell and Cassells as having a point-plus per game scoring average. In the league stats Aaron Nell is still at number ten in the Top Ten Points Scorers chart, but at the top of the Brit Goal Scorers chart and mid-way in the Brit points scoring Top Ten chart. On Wednesday Bees boss Claude Dumas said he was speechless following Saturday’s game against the Wildcats in which his side got thrashed in an eight goal shutout, but did manage to gasp he had no idea what happened. Friday, and according to the Swindon Advertiser, the Wildcats’ tails are up following the win against the Bees   and unlucky loss to the Jets, and big things are expected at the weekend against the Flames and Jets again. Apparently, what enhanced the inclination in the tails is the fact the first opponents, Guildford Flames, go into the weekend on the end of a 3-game losing streak. Next up will be a visit by the Jets against whom revenge will be sought. So, onto Saturday and in a very tight home game the Wildcats not only took the lead through Matt Foord on the powerplay, but after the Flames equalised before the break, Jan Krajicek, also on the powerplay, re-established a one goal lead with the only scoring in the second period. Jozef Kohut got the winner seven minutes before the end, and the Wildcats, although outshot for the thirty-fourth time this season, made better use of their powerplays. But, all news was not so good with the Bees fighting off the Raiders in a spirited fifteen-goal bonanza, meaning the two point gap remained. The win did however give the Wildcats their best home winning streak of three games, and Jan Krajicek won the man-of-the-match for the seventh time. Sunday, and what could you say? Not only a four-point weekend for only the second time, but it’s the Flames and Jets that took the bashing and to top it off the Bees must be feeling a bit wobbly now that things are equal on points with them losing to the Phoenix. Jan Krajicek claimed the man-of-the-match again for the eighth time and a record three consecutive games. Bees and Wildcats’ games to play look about even, so an interesting climax to the league regular season is to come.
