Not a great deal of movement happened on Monday this week in the free agent market. Evgeny Kuznetsov re-signed with the Washington Capitals with a two-year, $6 million contract.
Caps general manager Brian MacLellan expects more from Kuznetsov especially with Justin Williams coming to Washington this season.
“I think he’ll have a big effect on Kuznetsov and [Andre] Burakovsky, and I also think he’ll have a good effect on Ovi and [Nicklas] Backstrom,” MacLellan said on NHL.com. “It’s good to have a guy that has won Cups and been through the wars as he has. He’s won three Cups, so I think he’ll have a big influence on our forward group.”
The Toronto Maple Leafs added Shawn Matthias for the coming season. Through 408 NHL games he has picked up 131 points on 69 goals.
The Boston Bruins signed Jimmy Hayes formerly of the Florida Panthers to a three-year contract worth $2.3 million.
