Subban takes down Boston in 3-1 win for Vegas

Malcolm Subban was a much-maligned goalie in Boston.  He was the rebound between Bruins in Boston and those in Providence in the AHL and could not find a groove with the big club.

On Sunday night, Subban found the groove and made 21 saves to defeat the Bruins, 3-1, for his new club, the Las Vegas Golden Knights.

“It’s a great feeling,” Subban said. “I made a lot of friends [in Boston], played with a lot of great teammates and (had) a great coaching staff. I’m just happy to get the win.”

It was Subban’s first NHL win after being claimed off waivers from the Boston earlier in the month; he backed up two Knights’ who scored their first NHL goals, Alex Tuch and Vadim Shipachyov.

“We know Malcolm well,” Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy said. “He’s a good first-shot goaltender for the most part. We wanted to put some stress on him and make him uncomfortable on those second ones, and I don’t think we did a good job on that.”

Subban had a shutout going until David Pastrnak  scored with just 30 seconds left in the game.

The goal made it 2-1 but Oscar Lindberg potted an empty-netter for the final score.

Tuukka Rask made 23 saves in taking the loss for the Bruins who dropped to 2-3-0 on the season.

“They were the fresher team. I’m not trying to make excuses, I’m just seeing what I saw. Our guys ran out of gas because they overplayed to an extent,” Cassidy said of the Knights.
