Another tight game at the SSE Arena saw the Belfast Giants and Manchester Storm go beyond 60 minutes with the visitors taking the win in overtime.
The 7,310 crowd had to wait more than half an hour for the opening goal. It came on a Giants powerplay as they moved the puck well in the zone and Nicolas Guay redirected JJ Piccinich’s pass past Evan Weninger at 31:48.
Manchester hit back early in the third period. With both David Goodwin and Scott Conway in the box, the Storm had a two-man advantage and Gary Haden found the top corner with an excellent finish from the left circle at 41:21.
Neither side could find a winner before the end of regulation, sending the game to overtime. The decisive moment came just 17 seconds into the extra period when Nick Welsh joined the Storm rush and beat Alexis Gravel with a pinpoint shot to claim the additional point for Manchester.
