On The Strip, the Calgary Flames’ Yegor Sharangovich scored his second goal of the game on Tuesday with 60 seconds left in regulation to force a tie with the Golden Knights and send the game to extra time.
In the extra session, Mark Stone hit for second of the game to give the Knights a 5-4 win, his goal came with 71 seconds gone in the session.
“When we’re not playing our best hockey we’re able to generate points, right? I don’t think we played that well for the majority of November,” Stone said. “But we were clawing our way into games and getting into overtime when we weren’t playing our best hockey. Right now, we’re actually playing pretty well, just giving up some inopportunistic goals in 6-on-5. Haven’t been able to close out games.”
Logan Thompson made 27 saves in the win.
Vegas improved to 20-5-5.
Calgary’s MacKenzie Weegar scored at 6:27 of the opening stanza to give the Flames a 1-0 advantage.
Calgary dropped to 11-14-4.
Chandler Stephenson hit off the power play at 13:53 to knot the game at 1-1.
Nazem Kadri restored the Flames lead, 2-1, on a goal at 2:37 of the middle frame.
Vegas replied soon after with a strike by Ivan Barbashev at 5:20, to tie it up, 2-2.
Sharangovich hit for his first of the game at 17:58 of the second to give the Flames the lead, again, 3-2.
“[Yegor]’s been great. He’s doing the right thing, he’s paying attention to details,” Kadri said. “That’s the thing with ‘Sharkie.’ He can be most effective when he has his focus out there. Lately, he definitely seems to have that. He’s got a great skill set and obviously a fantastic shot. He’s got to keep utilizing that.”
Vegas responded with two straight goals to take a 4-3 lead.
Stone potted his first of the night, off the power play, with six minutes gone in the third period. for a 3-3 tie.
William Karlsson then hit for a marker at 16:14 to give the Golden Knights a seemingly safe 4-3 lead.
“We know we have a good team, and we know that we can come back any night. I think we believe in ourselves that much and we battled back today,” Karlsson said. “Unfortunately, they tied it up again, but we showed some resilience and got the [win].”
Dustin Wolf made 34 saves in the loss.
