Stoever blanks makeshift Flames

Injury riddled Flames drafted in a pair of Basingstoke Bison on 2 way arrangements and 3 other current or former Guildford jr members to bulk up the roster in the final Cup game of the group round where Spectrum’s men held close but eventually fell 1-0 against the visiting Cardiff Devils.

Just under 5 minutes from opening period time Riley Brandt set Devils to a lead and that goal would stand up as the winner.

Across 40 minutes Taz Burman turned away all but 1 of 20 shots before being replace by Adam Long who was blemish free for the final frame.  A 3rd period Cole Ully major and game misconduct gave Devils an extended powerplay to increase their advantage, but Flames closed that segment with no damage. They went to their own powerplay inside the last 5 minutes but an equalizer could not be found, then or later with their net empty to use an extra skater, before time wound down on the contest.

Adam Long in relief was good on all 7 shots his way and Devils’ Christian Stoever had the 24 shot shutout.
