STOCKTON, Calif. – Stockton’s Goaltender Olivier Roy could say that the Golden Goalie Jersey he wore for Saturday night’s game was lucky; they shutout the Alaska Aces 4-0.
The Golden Goalie Jersey is the replacement for the All-Star Game this season. Each ECHL team had a goaltender chosen to wear a specially designed Golden Goalie sweater.
As part of the ECHL Silver Skater Fantasy Team, presented by The MeiGray Group, each fan had a chance to vote for their favorite player on each team. Two players on each team was selected to wear the Silver Skater Fantasy Team custom-specialty game-worn jerseys. Goaltenders participated through the Golden Goalie program.
Roy wore the jersey with specially designed metallic-gold logo for the Thunder, and Garet Hunt and Kevin Baker each wore the special silver crest.
The jerseys will be auctioned by The MeiGray Group later in March.
During Saturday’s game, it was apparent why these players were nominated as fan favorites. Hunt did what the fans love; came out with high energy that resulted in dropping the gloves just after the game began with Matt Ambroz. The tussle got the fans on their feet and then he waved his arms at the crowd as he was escorted to the penalty box.
Baker scored the first and second goal of the game and was credited with an assist on the final goal, in the 4-0 match; earning the second star in the game.
Roy faced 36 shots in the shutout, and following the game was called back up to Oklahoma City Barons. Roy is third in the ECHL with .927 save percentage and sixth with 2.41 goals against average and a record of 13-16-5 in 34 games with the Thunder. This was his fourth shutout.
