LAS VEGAS – After battling back to tie the game four separate times tonight, the Las Vegas Wranglers fell 7-5 to the Stockton Thunder in the second of a three-game road series.
Wranglers forward Sean Wiles kicked off scoring late in the first period, but a literal last second goal by Thunder right wing Jesse Fratkin ended the frame with a 1-1 tie.
Stockton added two more goals to their score early in the second for a 3-1 lead, but a second goal from Wiles and another from Wranglers center Eric Lampe tied the game 3-3 at the 12:43 mark. A minute later, a second goal for Stockton’s Fratkin put the team up 4-3, but a late power play goal from Wranglers center Chris Francis knotted the game once again.
With 30 seconds left in the period, Thunder left wing Ian O’Connor netted Stockton’s fifth goal of the night to end the frame up 5-4 over Las Vegas.
For the fourth tie of the night, Wranglers left wing Adam Miller recorded the team’s second power play goal of the night to even the score 5-5 midway through the third. Two Thunder goals – a second from defenseman Mike Little and one from center Chris Doyle – gave Stockton a 7-5 lead with eight minutes left in regulation, and the Wranglers were unable to respond. Outshooting Las Vegas 43 to 29, Stockton won 7-5 and successfully snapped the Wranglers’ four-game winning streak.
The Wranglers finish the three-game Thunder series Sunday afternoon before taking on the Colorado Eagles in another three-game road series next weekend. Las Vegas returns home on Thursday, Feb. 2, to face the Alaska Aces.
