BAKERSFIELD, Calif. –  The Stockton Heat (3-0-1-0) extend their win streak to three games following a battle with the Bakersfield Condors (2-2-0-0) with a final score of 4-2 at Mechanics Bank Arena.

In their first of ten matches for the season, the Condors scored first, only 5:17 into the first period. Cooper Marody’s shot from the slot through heavy traffic beat Goalie Dustin Wolf to the back of the net.  The goal was assisted by Seth Griffith and Philip Broberg.  It only took Stockton 45 seconds to light the blue light, when Kevin

Gravel’s shot from just inside the blue line, blasted down middle to the net. Martin Posposil and Glenn Gawdin earned assists in the goal. Gawdins assist was his 100th career AHL point. The teams went to the first break with the score knotted at one each.

The second period was faster paced, but ending much like the first, as the teams each scored a goal.  The Condors took the lead again, at 1:33, when Tim Schaller took a pass from Ryan McLeod deep in the zone across the crease.

Schaller sent the puck to the back of the net, beating Wolf on the stick side. The goal was also assisted by Marody. But their lead was short lived, when the Heat evened the score again at the five-minute mark on a powerplay. Captain Bryon Froese sent the puck to Justin Kirkland, waiting in the center of the right circle, where he wristed the puck back to the net, past Olivier Rodrigue.

The teams remained split at two goals apiece until late in the third period, when Stockton took their first lead of the game, and never looked back.  Matthew Phillips skating towards the net, took a pass from Jake Pelletier and wristed it to the net.  With a minute remaining at a stoppage of play, the Condors pulled the netminder for the extra skater, but it wasn’t enough. Nick DeSimone took the face off in the defensive zone, skated around the back of the net and toward the neutral zone, where he pulled the trigger sending the puck to the empty net for the final goal.
