Stingrays secure point

Rapid Solicitors Hull Stingrays picked up a big point from Elite League title-chasing Cardiff Devils in a 3-2 overtime loss at Hull Arena.

Brent Walton gave Devils the lead at 3.05 but two quickfire goals handed Stingrays a 2-1 advantage at the end of the first period.

Jordan Knox – his third goal for the club – tied the game at 8.19 before Sam Towner claimed his second of the season at 10.13.Cardiff Devils logo

Jesse Mychan’s strike at 34.28 made it 2-2 before Stingrays forward Eric Galbraith fought Andrew Hotham 88 seconds into the final session.

The game went into overtime when Walton won it for Devils at 62.18.

Player-coach Omar Pacha said: “Our compete level was very high and we worked extremely hard. We played a solid game.

“We did not get some of the bounces but it was a good game and it could have gone either way.

“We are disappointed we did not get the extra point but it was a point against a good Cardiff team and if we can get the win in what is a big game in Edinburgh tomorrow and have a three-point weekend I can live with that.”

Pacha was particularly pleased with the contribution of Knox, Towner and Zach Hervato, with that line registering five of the six points on the night.

He added: “Jordan has been a little snake-bitten since he got here but he was buzzing all night and could have had another goal.

“Sam played well and got a big goal. It was a nice shot and he put himself in a good position.

“That line had speed all night and generated a lot of chances. For the third unit to get the two goals was massive and it shows the depth of our forwards.”
