Stingrays out to book play-off spot

HULL, UK – Rapid Solicitors Hull Stingrays head into tomorrow night’s Elite League clash with Coventry Blaze at Hull Arena (7pm face-off) knowing victory will guarantee a play-off place.

Stingrays, who expect to have Jordan Mayer back, can also advance to the post-season with any type of defeat should Edinburgh Capitals fail to win at title-chasing Cardiff Devils. Hull Stingrays logo

Player-coach Omar Pacha said: “Jordan should be back in the line-up which is a huge boost. But we control our own destiny – if we win, we are in.

“We just need to keep playing the same way, keep things simple and do not get away from the system.

“We need to keep them to the outside and keep it close. We will always create chances with our work ethic and speed and we just need to make sure we bury them.

“Coventry are a hard-working team, a very north American team, they generate a lot of shots from the outside but they always have someone driving the net and they got their two goals that way on Sunday.

“If we were to get the win and make the play-offs it would be a big accomplishment because we have been through a lot this year, playing short with all the injuries.

“But the job won’t be done and there will still be work to do at the weekend. I don’t want to be content just to make the play-offs, I want to finish in the top six which is somewhere this club has never been before. The bigger goal is to make the Final Four.”
