Stingrays bag big point in Glasgow

Rapid Solicitors Hull Stingrays were 38 seconds away from securing a fantastic victory but still claimed a massive point in a 3-2 shoot-out loss at Elite League leaders Braehead Clan.

Stingrays, without injured captain Matty Davies and forward Jordan Knox, took the lead 1.08 into the second period through Cory Tanaka’s 22nd goal of the season. Braehead Clan logo

Scott Pitt levelled for Clan with a short-handed marker at 25.35 but, on the same powerplay, Dominic Osman restored Stingrays’ lead 25 seconds later with his third goal in as many games.

Stingrays, who won 3-2 in Glasgow on January 31, seemed set for another two huge points only for Neil Trimm to tie the game at 59.22 after Clan had called a time-out and pulled goaltender Kyle Jones.

In the shoot-out, Stingrays’ Zach Hervato scored in sudden death but was unable to convert again as Leigh Salters tallied twice to hand Clan the additional point.

Stingrays goaltender David Brown made 45 saves in another man-of-the-match performance to follow up his stunning display in Sunday’s home win over Nottingham Panthers.

Six points in four games have left Stingrays two points behind sixth-placed Fife Flyers – who visit Hull Arena on Sunday (6pm face-off) – with four games in hand.
