Steelheads down Americans 7-1 to take 3-2 series lead

2016KellyCupBOISE, Idaho – Game five of the Kelly Cup Quarterfinals series between the Allen Americans and Idaho Steelheads was an incredibly lopsided affair. The Steelheads dominated the defending Kelly Cup Champions through sixty minutes of play and handed them an embarrassing 7-1 loss to take a 3-2 series lead.

The Steelheads scored early and often, Kruise Reddick started the show with his goal at 2:31, which was quickly followed by goals at two minute intervals by Taylor Peters and Radoslav Illo. Americans netminder Riley Gill was chased from the crease after the Peters goal but the momentum was solidly in Idaho’s favor and they never took their foot off the gas all night.

Idaho rounded out the scoring in the opening frame with a shorthanded marker by Andre Bouvet-Morrissette at18:50 and managed a 4-0 lead on just 10 shots for the period.

The second period was less productive for Idaho as they traded goals with Allen but retained their four goal lead by the second intermission. It was Carson McMillan who scored the Steelheads 5th unanswered on the power play at14:22 but four minutes later, Greger Hanson answered back with Allen’s first goal of the night to break Philippe Desrosiers shutout, also on the power play.

The third period saw a high flying power play for Idaho continue their domination of the Americans, adding another pair of power play goals to finish 3/8 on the evening. Getting the first was Tommy Fallen and two minutes laterShawn Boutin put the cherry on top with the Steelheads final goal of the night and a 7-1 win.

With a 3-2 series lead, the clubs now head to Allen for game six with the Americans facing elimination.

The series will resume on Tuesday night at the Allen Event Center; puck drop is scheduled for 7:05PM CDT.
