The Steelers were back in home action tonight as they took on the Dundee Stars and it took nine goals to separate the teams. The Steelers were never able to go more than one goal ahead at any point during the game but ultimately, the men in Orange came out on top.
On the team news front, Armstrong was missing from the line up tonight after coming down with a bug and Barry Brust got the nod between the pipes, backed up by Rok Stojanovic.
The Steelers dominated the first period from the off as they rained shots on Stars netminder Adam Morrison’s goal, but he would not be beaten through the first 20 minutes and the game remained goalless and all square at the first intermission.
The second period was the opposite as no less than five goals were scored with the Steelers responsible for three of them.
For the Steelers, Tanner Eberle got his name on the scoresheet twice as Evan Mosey picked up the other. Eberle and Mosey both picked up goals after being in the right place at the right time to put away Morrison rebounds from Vallerands’ and Latal’s initial shots. Tanner’s second goal came courtesy of a penalty shot after he was hooked back after going in one on one on Morrison and ripped his penalty effort top shelf.
Tom Rutkis and Charlie Combs picked up the second period goals for the Stars.
A two goal apiece drawn period in the third was enough to take away the two points for the Steelers. Adrian Saxrud-Danielsen found the back of the net from the blue line at 43.45 and Matias Sointu got the Steelers fifth courtesy of a deflection off his skate from Ellerby’s shot.
Dundee’s two goals were credited to Philippe Sanche and Tom Rutkis.
Another two points for the Steelers saw the Arena sky fill with KitKat’s for Evan Mosey’s Man of the Match “KitKat Get That” performance.
After three points were split in Belfast tonight, the Steelers now lead the league by two points with four games in hand on Cardiff and by four points with one game in hand on Belfast.
We are back in action tomorrow night as we head up North to take on the Glasgow Clan before we are back at the Utilita Sheffield Arena next weekend for a double header against the Manchester Storm and Glasgow Clan – See you there Sheffield.
