Robert Dowd again led the way in a dominant Steelers performance and a 6-2 home victory against top of the table Cardiff Devils.
The result rounded off a four-point weekend for Paul Thompson’s side as the Steelers
stayed in touch with Belfast Giants in the hunt for second place in the league standings.
Dowd’s two goals were added to by Guillaume Desbiens, Levi Nelson, Andreas Valdix and Ben O’Coonor.
The Steelers played some fantastic offensive hockey in the first period and deserved to be more than one goal to the good when the period ended.
The first strike was by Dowdy in the 10th minute with Valdix and Ratchuk assisting.
Back came the Devils at the start of the middle period, player-coach Andrew Lord finding a way past Mustukovs 3 minutes in.
At 29.38 the Steelers struck again, Desbiens the scorer, with Armstrong and Roy assisting. (2-1)
The Devils back to 2-2 in the 35th minute when Mark Richardson scored.
The Steelers immediately hit back, Nelson assisted by Dowd and Valdix has that second unit continued their incredible run of form. Steelers led 3-2 at the second break.
With just 9.26 remaining the fantastic trio were at it again, this time Valdix converted with Nelson and Dowd assisting. It was a goal that gave the Steelers breathing room at 4-2.
Just 7.41 on the clock when Ben O’Connor ripped on past Murdy for 5-2
The Devils pulled the goalie with over 3 minutes remaining whilst on the power-play in a last-gasp effort to get back into the game, the Steelers killed and went on to score a 6th
Nelson again doing terrific work and selflessly setting up Dowdy for the empty net goal.
