Steelers skunk Clan, 4-0 PHN's Best Shots of the Game - UPDATE TO FOLLOW

Four first period goals saw Sheffield Steelers cruise past Glasgow Clan, blanking their opponents in the 4-0 win.

Glasgow almost struck first when a misplaced pass at the blue line gave the Clan a 2-on-0 while shorthanded. Cade Neilson fed Rylan Schwartz, who mishandled, but the puck came straight back to Neilson with half the net open. Matthew Greenfield produced a stunning stick save to keep the game scoreless. Seconds later, Sheffield capitalised on the same power play. Ryan Tait stepped into a snapshot that beat Lucas Brine low for 1-0.

Just over a minute later, Dominic Cormier found Robert Dowd free in the left circle, and the Steelers captain fired high past Brine for 2-0. Almost immediately, Cormier turned from provider to scorer, taking a pass from Mitchell Heard and beating Brine with a wrist shot under the arm to extend the lead. Cormier was involved again with 4:23 left in the period, redirecting a Mikko Juusola shot through Brine for Sheffield’s fourth.

“It was a tough task tonight,” said Clan forward Brett Neumann. “It’s a hard place to play on the road, we were down guys, and we didn’t get off to the start we were hoping for. The first 10 minutes wasn’t ideal for us and it hurt us in the end.”

Neither side found the net again, with each team receiving one power play in a quieter second and third period. Sheffield managed the game out comfortably to secure the shutout for Greenfield.

“It’s a good win,” said Cormier. “We have a little break coming up, so it’s nice to get a win heading into that and big for us to help Matt Greenfield get that shutout heading into the games coming up.”
