Steelers Sign Oskar Ostlund with the Help of the University of Sheffield Management School

Oskar Ostlund has today been confirmed to the Steelers roster ahead of the 2022-23 season.

The 30 year old goalie from Gavle in Sweden brings a wealth of experience after playing for the Swedish junior (under 18 and 19) national sides together with a professional career in his homeland, Switzerland, Norway, Germany and Austria.

Ostlund has signed a two-year contract with the club which will also see him complete his MBA studies at the prestigious University of Sheffield

Head coach Aaron Fox said “Oskar is coming in on a 2 year Uni deal which will provide some nice stability to the goalie position.

“It’s great to have that relationship back with the Management school. They have been unreal in this process.

“Oskar plays a hybrid style and is very square on pucks and his save selection is excellent. He’s provided excellent career numbers in some great European leagues and is excited to come in here to help us achieve our goals.

“With his Career numbers in Norway 920 sv%, DEL 928 sv%, IceHL 903 sv%, and in 16 Champions league games a 925 sv % we feel like he will give us a great chance to win every night”

Former Steeler Adrian Saxrud-Danielsen played his part in our new goalies arrival “Saxy is a good friend of mine” said Oskar “he told me that he loved Sheffield and The Steelers from day 1, that interested me and after the season I asked him to out me in touch with the coach.

“I talked with Aaron and we had super good conversations, we arranged a deal pretty quick, if I’m being honest it was an easy decision for me and I’ve been excited to get started since putting pen to paper a while ago now”

The MBA programme with Sheffield University’s Management School wasn’t initially talked about says Ostlund “we spoke just hockey and both seemed happy with each other on that level, but then schooling came up and it was something I had always been interested in, I knew one day, most probably after hockey I would study. When this chance to work at this University became an option it was one I jumped at. The Management School has an excellent reputation and I am lucky to be studying there”

As for what we can expect from Oskar on the ice “I guess the word is Hybrid, I’m not a modern goalie but also not old school, somewhere in between I guess. I am very calm, I think that helps the defence in front of me to be calm as well. I play the circumstances of the game, I keep the pace of the game”

Fraser McLeay, Associate Dean of Education at Sheffield University Management School said “as part of our long-term relationship with the Steelers we are really excited to have Oskar joining our MBA cohort.

“The MBA programme at the Triple Accredited University of Sheffield Management School normally recruits approximately fifty global students from hundreds of applicants all around the world. All of our MBA students are experienced professionals with at least 3 years management experience.

“Over the last ten years the Steelers players have been some of our most capable and motivated MBA students and coming from a professional sports background, they bring a different perspective to the programme”.

Professor Rachael Finn, Dean of Sheffield Management School indicated we very much look forward to welcoming Oskar to the Management School in September.
