Steelers shut out Clan in Glasgow

Steelers bring another 2 points back from Scotland after shutting out the Glasgow Clan 3-0 on home ice.

Brandon Whistle, Scott Allen and captain Jonathan Phillips were on target for The Steelers with goalie Matt Greenfield claiming the man of the match award with a 41 save shut out.

Steelers now have a two day break before heading to Nottingham on Sunday for a challenge cup fixture.

Steelers headed to Glasgow on Thursday without Sam Jones in the line up once again, Alex Graham taking his place with Evan Mosey back on the blue line.

Matt Greenfield once again had the start backed up by Curtis Warburton.

Steelers second visit of the season to Scotland and similar to Sunday’s trip to Dundee it was a scoreless first period.

Chances fell to both sides, but it was really a feeling each other out 20 minutes.

Steelers took control in the second period despite the Clan having the first power-play of the night with Evan Mosey off for tripping.

Just prior to that penalty the Steelers fourth line had an outstanding shift with Jonathan Phillips forechecking creating a chance out in front for Brandon Whistle. He netted unassisted. (24.02)

Steelers doubled their advantage at 29.39 when Brett Neumann’s shot was re-directed by Scott Allen for goal number 2.

Glasgow went back on the Powerplay at the end of the middle period when Brandon McNally was sent to the box for hooking with 11 seconds remaining.

Steelers killed the Clan’s second Powerplay and then went about creating chances of their own.

Martin Latal, Adam Raska, Evan Mosey and Scott Allen all going close.

At the other end the compact and confident Matt Greenfield was keeping the Clan at bay making some excellent saves and holding fort.

With just over a minute remaining the Clan pulled their goalie for the extra forward but it was the Steelers and their captain Jonathan Phillips who found the empty net.

Final score: Glasgow Clan 0-3 Steelers.
