Steelers shine in road win in Guildford

Steelers collected their first 2 points of the season with an impressive road performance in Guildford, beating the Flames 4-1

Man of the match Scott Allen scored twice with Brandon McNally and Tomáš Pitule also scoring.

The impressive Greenfield stopped 37 of Guildford’s 38 shots.

A tough first period for The Steelers with the Flames taking the majority of the play and out shooting the Stheffield 14-8

Matt Greenfield was once again in fine form making several excellent saves.

Brandon McNally opened the scoring in a nice move with Messrs: Raska and Latal at 11.33

Aaron Fox would have been happy to take the lead in to the first period break

Adam Raska was sent to the box for slashing (21.58) but just 6 seconds later Peter Crinella levelled the score with his power-play goal.

At 23.36 Steelers went to the box again with Scott Allen off for cross checking, Steelers killed but were again short handed when Sam Jones took a holding minor at 31.00

Steelers broke short-handed and Scott Allen finished nicely for his first goal of the league season to put Sheffield back ahead.

Steelers had a brief Powerplay of their own when Owen Griffiths was sent to the box, a minute later he was joined by Ian McNulty as the Flames had to kill 5/3

Despite the pressure The Steelers failed to convert on either the 5/3 or 5/4 power-play but were to extend their lead shortly after.

36.44 When Allen added his second, a controversial scrabble around the net, the puck crossed the line but the officials waved the goal off as the net had come off it moorings.

The officials deliberated for a long time before confirming that the puck had crossed the line before the net had moved – the goal stood and Steelers led 3-1

Into the final period and the Flames had their chances to get back into the game, Scott Allen went for Elbows at 44.39 but rather than Guildford narrow the lead The Steelers extended theirs with a second short handed goal of the night, Tomáš Pitule with his first in Orange.

The 4-1 scoreline would remain for the rest of the night as The Steelers controlled the remainder of the period. Guildford pulled the goalie on three occasions but couldn’t find a way past Greenfield again.

A 2 point weekend for The Steelers who now return home next Saturday for a fixture against Manchester Storm.
