The Chase Continues: The Steelers collected another victory as they chase down the Cardiff Devils with a 4-2 win against arch rivals Nottingham Panthers.
Steelers raced to a second period 3-0 lead before the Panthers clawed their way back into the game scoring two 3rd period goals.
Man of the match Jonathan Phillips scored his second of the night into the empty night to send 7,200 fans home happy and the Steelers victorious.
The game started with a bang as Jeff Brown and Geoff Walker squared off at centre ice.
Mathieu Roy opened the scoreline just 31 seconds into the middle period, assisted Ratchuk and Coyle.
It was soon 2-0 when captain Jonathan Phillips scored past Wiikman with Nelson and Armstrong collecting assists.
Powerplay time for the Steelers when Stevie Lee was called for cross checking, Geoff Walk obliged with the goal that gave Sheffield a 3-0 advantage by the close of the second period.
The Panthers struck back in the final session, first Robert Lachowicz and then David Clarke gave Nottingham hope as they pressed looking for the equaliser.
The Steelers bent but didn’t break and with the Panthers goalie pulled to the bench Jonathan Phillips scored into the empty net for a final scoreline of Steelers 4-2 Panthers.
It was a night for the Captain who went on to collect the man of the match award.
