The Sheffield Steelers have once again made the semi-finals of the Challenge Cup after a 3-3 tie in Manchester on Wednesday evening.
Steelers qualify for the final four following their first leg 5-2 win at the Fly DSA Arena last week.
Robert Dowd, Brendan Connolly and Michael Davies scored on the night in what was a niggly affair in Altrincham.
Adam Hughesman opened the scoring for the Storm at 15.49, the only goal of the first period.
Robert Dowd equalised with a ripper of a wrist shot at 33.53 but the Storm promptly responded through Cody Thompson less than 2 minutes later.
With a 2-1 scoreline, the Storm had reduced the aggregate deficit to 4-6 and all was to play for in the final period.
The line of Vallerand, DeLuca and Connolly was a constant threat all night and the three combined 6 minutes into the third period, DeLuca’s pass to Connolly was sublime and the Steelers #63 finished with a one-timer to tie the game and open up a 3 goal advantage in this two-legged quarter-final.
Michael Davies then gave the Steelers breathing room at 54.21 with an unassisted goal.
With just 94 seconds remaining Tyson Fawcett equalised the game 3-3 but the Steelers saw the game through and took the series 8-5.
Steelers will now play the Glasgow Clan in the Challenge Cup semi-finals.
