Sheffield Steelers earned their second home win of the week by a single goal, this time in regulation, as they edged past Fife Flyers 2-1 at the Utilita Arena.
Fife arguably had the better of the limited chances in the opening period. Jeremy Masella chose to pass on a good look when shooting seemed the better option, while Josh Winquist was denied by a well-timed poke check from Eamon McAdam. The Steelers made the breakthrough with 24 seconds left in the period when Robert Dowd threw the puck toward the net and it deflected in off Cliff Pu.
A nice passing play got the Flyers level 4:41 into period two. Winquist fed Giordano Finoro who in turn worked the puck to Johan Porsberger to beat McAdam and tie the game.
Sheffield regained their advantage early in the second. Sam Tremblay finished at 21:33 after Dowd worked the puck from behind the goal to set him up in front. From there, the Steelers controlled much of the middle frame, while Fife continued to struggle to generate clear scoring chances.
The Flyers pushed in the third period but again lacked the killer touch around the net, with McAdam rarely troubled despite their possession. Sheffield came close to adding a third with the net empty late on, but Tremblay’s goal stood as the winner and the Steelers closed out a solid 2-1 home victory.
