The Steelers cemented their place at the top of their Challenge Cup group tonight with a one goal victory over the Nottingham Panthers at the Utilita Sheffield Arena.
Sam Jones has recovered from injury and was back in the squad with Alex Graham missing out. Matt Greenfield was between the pipes again, backed up by Curtis Warburton.

The Panthers took a one goal lead into the second period as Welsh (7.24) was on the doorstep to tap home a Brady blue line shot which Greenfield could only deflect away.

The Steelers started to pile on the pressure but the final finish couldn’t be found until the 37th minute when McNally took the blue line, went in on Debeau and finished well. Assists coming from Pitule and Captain Phillips.

The Golden Child, Robert Dowd has been searching for his first point of the season, and what better way to get it than a game winner against the Panthers. At 50.18, Dowd circled the Panthers Zone, headed towards the blue line, swivelled and fired home low blocker side.

Debeau picked up the Panthers MoTM award, whilst McNally took off on his first Eddy for the club after picking up the Steelers awards and put a few snow-angels on the ice.
We are back in action tomorrow night as we head to the Skydome Arena to take on Coventry in Elite League action, before we welcome Guidford on Thursday next week. £8 tickets all round – See you there!
