Steelers drop 4-1 decision to Coventry

With one eye on the Challenge Cup Final the Steelers went down at home on Saturday night 4-1 to the Coventry Blaze.

It was the Blaze first victory of the season in league and cup play against the Steelers and this one didn’t look on the cards after the first period in which Sheffield out shot Coventry 20-7

It was the Blaze however who had scored the only goal of the first period  Marquardt at 11.47

Blaze doubled their advantage at 30.50 when Brett Robinson shot past Mustukovs.

Steelers were on the board just before the end of the second session when Levi Nelson’s drop pass to Robert Dowd was fired past Stewart in the Blaze goal.

The Steelers hopes of two points to take into Sunday’s cup final were dashed early in the third period.

First Syner, just 57 seconds in made it 3-1 before Boutin made it 4-1 3 minutes later.

Brad Day replaced Mustukovs on goal for the final 15 minutes of the game as the Steelers rested their starting goalie for Sunday’s final.
