Sheffield Steelers survived an early scare to run out comfortable 7-1 winners over Fife Flyers in Kirkcaldy.
After Keaton Jameson failed to convert on a penalty shot, the Steelers took the lead with 9:40 played as Robert Dowd finished from close range to beat Shane Owen five-hole.
The Flyers levelled the game with 5:49 left in the period when Drew McLean joined the rush and finished a well-worked play after an excellent Josh Winquist pass, going top shelf past Matt Greenfield. Ian Scheid then hit the post as the Flyers began to enjoy the better of the closing stages of the period.
Fife collapsed in a ten-minute spell in the second period after which the game slipped out of reach. Brett Ritchie’s shot beat Owen at 23:55 to restore the Steelers’ lead, while Mitch Heard made it 3-1 just 21 seconds later.
Sam Tremblay added another at 33:43 to put the Steelers firmly in control.
Further goals from Ryan Tait, Reece Kelly and Mitchell Balmas completed the scoring as the Steelers ran out 7-1 winners.
