Steelers clip Storm, 2-1

A last minute strike from Levi Nelson secured the points for the Steelers and sent over 6000 fans off to celebrate New Year.

It was a tense affair as the Steelers tried to bounce back from the Christmas defeats to Nottingham.

A scoreless first period was even, each team created chances without really threatening to take the game by the scruff of the neck.

Manchester hit second period penalty problems, after killing a minor against Dziuryznski the Storm ended up killing a 5/3 Steelers powerplay with Swindlehurst and Ehrdardt in the penalty box.

Steelers capitalised – Roy and O’Connor setting up Desbiens for the opening goal.

The game remained that way until 49.33 when the Storm equalised. No call against Storm goalie Clemente for interference on Desbiens and the play quickly went down to the other end of the ice where Dziuryznski tied the game.

Into the final few minutes and the Storm head to the penalty box with 2.13 remaining – Dziuryznski off for hooking.

The Steelers went on a late power-play and struck gold. Hagos and Nilsson assisting on Levi Nelson’s game winner.

Storm pulled Clemente in the final minute as they searched for a late equaliser but to no avail. The Steelers win.
